OSRX Continues to Build Compound Interest with New Customized Glaucoma Meds

By Steven Sarkisian, MD

As a surgeon, it is rare to find a product that significantly shifts my practice patterns, but the custom formulations from OSRX® have done just that. For more than four years, I have been prescribing OMNI combination drops from OSRX to my glaucoma and cataract patients.

I have seen firsthand how OSRX partners with physicians and their staff across the country to provide custom solutions for each of my patients.

The most recent example consists of three compounded medications – Timolol+Bimatoprost, Timolol+Brimonidine Tartrate+Dorzolamide+Bimatoprost and Timolol+Brimonidine Tartrate+Dorzolamide – that I have prescribed in the past for my patients with glaucoma. These formulations from OSRX do not require refrigeration and can be prescribed in volumes of up to 5 mL. I also prescribe Tim+Bim and Tim+Brim+Dor+Bim for patients with preservative sensitivities and where I am concerned about cornea toxicity as they have low levels of preservatives, which can translate to less toxicity to the cornea, better vision, and improved tolerance.

OSRX medications are customized based on provider prescriptions. These custom formulations enhance the patient experience by promoting simplicity, easy adherence and compliance.

When the patient wins, everybody wins – no one is successful unless the patient is successful, and our collective goals are met. I have also prescribed Pred+Moxi+Brom for my patients who have had cataract surgery, which has been a game-changer. I don’t worry about formulary switches that can create concerns for my patients; when I prescribe my patients the customized formulations from OSRX, I know they will receive the medications I have actually prescribed, at a fair price, and with the friendliest customer service.

Amy Slabaugh is a certified registered nurse of ophthalmology (CRNO), and the clinic director at Oklahoma Eye Surgeons. “When I was first introduced to OSRX drops, I was immediately intrigued by the ease of use for Dr. Sarkisian’s patients and staff,” says Slabaugh. “We recently had a patient who was getting his four different glaucoma drops in four bottles for free,” she says. “I mentioned, ‘I know you are not paying for your current drops, but I strongly recommend you give these new drops a try. The compounded drops Dr. Sarkisian has prescribed for you will make it much easier for you to keep track of your dosing schedule and most of the patients who use these drops tell Dr. Sarkisian that they find them affordable.”

Importantly, physicians and their staff must be deliberate and thoughtful when prescribing compounded medications for patients. It is not a one-size-fits-all scenario. However, when we prescribe OSRX customized drops for patients, patients find them easy to use – a scenario that helps ensure compliance with their dosing regimen.

Bottom line: Prescribing OMNI by OSRX compounded drops is an absolute winner for my patients and my practice.
