When My Frustrated Staff Said, “We Need Another Option,” I Found OSRX®. We’ve Been Happily Together for Five Years.

By Sydney L. Tyson, MD, MPH

Dr. Sydney L. Tyson founded Eye Associates & SurgiCenter of Vineland (N.J.) in 1999, a medical and surgical ophthalmology practice that has expanded to six offices serving southern New Jersey and greater Philadelphia, Pa. With a medical degree from Harvard Medical School and an advanced degree from Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Tyson has built a multi-specialty practice focused on diagnosing and treating all types of eye diseases, conditions and visual challenges for patients of all ages. Beyond primary care, Eye Associates provides dropless IV free custom cataract surgery, bladeless custom LASIK, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and more.

I started prescribing compounded formulations of eye medications for my patients many years ago. I’ve tried different compounding pharmacies and formulations to meet the needs of my patients who require specially- compounded drugs, but never found a compounding pharmacy with the right blend of customer service, convenience, and quality.  Honestly, I simply got tired of the ball being dropped and my patients getting frustrated. Equally important, my staff was confronted with a variety of issues like our specific patient prescriptions often being delivered late or not appropriately filled. They said, “This is enough; we need another option.”

It’s very simple: I, like every doctor, want to make work enjoyable for my staff and assure my patients receive appropriate treatment and achieve the best possible health outcomes.

I had known Dr. Damien Goldberg (co-founder, Ocular Science®, an affiliate of PCAB-accredited compounding pharmacy OSRX®) and Dr. Francis Mah (co-founder, Ocular Science) for quite a while so I’d heard they were involved with a new compounding pharmacy that was offering superior customer service. I did my homework, met Anthony Sampietro – a straight-shooting CEO who listens to doctors and wants to make our lives easier – and I’ve partnered with OSRX to compound drugs for my patients ever since.

Another factor is clarity around insurance, which used to lead patients to worry about donut hole issues and coupons. It also used to lead to my staff making unwanted phone calls and wasting time. The streamlined payment process for patients who utilize drugs compounded by OSRX is another added benefit.  When doctors have a wish-list of customized formulations, and OSRX says, “Hey, we can compound that for you,” … that’s a big deal and the beauty of compounding.
