In Good Hands: My Trusted Pharmacy Partner for Post-Op

Dr. Shachar Tauber, a practicing physician for more than 20 years is the Director of Ophthalmology Research, Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Mercy Clinic in Springfield, Mo., where he and fellow surgeons are the first to provide laser-assisted cataract surgery in Southwest Missouri. He is also CEO of Tauber Ophthalmic Research of America; a cornea and refractive surgeon and director of ophthalmic research at St. John’s Clinic; medical director of Ocugenics LLC; and assistant professor and director of cornea and refractive surgery at Yale University of School of Medicine.
At Mercy, where our ophthalmic surgeons perform 5,000 surgeries a year, getting patients to comply with pre- and post-surgery medication regimens used to be daunting. Patients consistently complained that taking the multiple different drops at different times was too confusing.
Compliance was spotty and we were receiving low satisfaction scores from our patients. This patient frustration was also affecting our staff, which meant significant time was spent dealing with patient and pharmacy challenges over the phone. It was apparent we had to find a solution.
Enter OSRX. We were aware the company compounded medications that provided for dosing simplicity. For certain patients, particularly those who were confused by the multi-drop medication regimen we would typically prescribe, this would enable better compliance by our patients and improve health outcomes.
However, before the shift to OSRX could be blessed by senior administrators, our organization needed to ensure that we trusted the pharmacy that would compound the medication for our specific patients. We wanted to see the processes the pharmacy used ourselves, and so we visited OSRX’s compounding pharmacy in Montana to examine their operation in person.
I’ve known Anthony Sampietro (founder of Ocular Science and its affiliated PCAB-accredited compounding pharmacy OSRX) for quite a few years, and though it was a big ask, I reached out to Anthony who made it happen. Two of our pharmacists toured the site and we immediately trusted that OSRX was a fit for Mercy.
It's been five years now since we made the switch to OSRX. The level of trust we have established among our stakeholders – our patients, our optometrists, our staff – is phenomenal. They all concur that OSRX provides the best customer service and they praise the drugs that the pharmacy compounds for our patients. Bottom line: Our patients have had a much easier with the medication regimen we prescribe for them – their compliance has skyrocketed.
At Mercy, the doctor-patient relationship is built on trust with a more responsive company. And we have full confidence that the drugs OSRX compounds for our patients are safe and effective for conditions for which we prescribe them. And as a bonus, they are also affordable.
With OSRX, it was love at first sight. Their continued support in compounding drugs for our patients has been superb and I’ve never dealt with a more responsive company.
OSRX is our trusted partner. It’s a compounding pharmacy our own people vetted and signed off on. It’s extremely gratifying to know that we have a pharmacy partner that makes my staff happy and my patients happy.
